Balance & Vestibular Therapy

About the Therapy

If you experience dizziness, vertigo, or frequent loss of balance, you may be dealing with a vestibular disorder. The vestibular system, located in the inner ear, works with your eyes, brain, and muscles to keep you steady. When the vestibular system is not functioning properly, everyday activities like walking, turning your head, sitting up, laying down, rolling, or standing can feel difficult or unsafe.

Vestibular physical therapy is a specialized treatment designed to reduce these symptoms and restore balance. Your physical therapist will evaluate your balance, coordination, and inner ear function to identify the cause of your symptoms. Based on this evaluation, a personalized treatment plan is developed to retrain your brain and body to work together more effectively.

Treatment focuses on improving stability, reducing dizziness, and restoring confidence with movement. As part of your overall physical therapy plan, vestibular therapy helps you safely return to daily activities, work, and recreation with greater control and independence.

Vestibular therapy can create significant change in a short period of time for some patients.

“Optimal Physical Therapy has helped me so much more than I imagined possible. In addition to exercises for healing my injury, the team devised ways to improve my balance for a hiking trip to Zion National Park. During sessions, they created therapy activities that mimicked upcoming hiking challenges to improve strength and balance, allowing me to practice before I traveled. For example, they set up an obstacle course that simulated walking The Narrows trail, a river trail with slippery rocks and uncertain footing. This kind of care and expertise is something I’ve never experienced before!”

"I have been to Optimal PT for a couple of ailments. Most recently I went for treatment for vertigo I was experiencing. I have suffered through a couple of bouts of vertigo every year for the past 20+ years. I never thought to see a PT for it. Lisa did a vestibular adjustment and worked with me for about 5 weeks. Things are settled down now, but I will go back if I have problems again."
